چکیده

Two large-area, low noise, high speed fluorescence detectors have been built. One detector consists of a photodiode with an area of 28 mm x 28 mm and a low noise transimpedance amplifier. This detector has a input light-equivalent spectral noise density of less than 3 pW/ √ Hz, can recover from a large scattered light pulse within 10 μs, and has a bandwidth of at least 900 kHz. The second detector consists of a 16 mm diameter avalanche photodiode and a low-noise transimpedance amplifier. This detector has an input light-equivalent spectral noise density of 0.08 pW/ √ Hz, also can recover from a large scattered light pulse within 10 μs, and has a bandwidth of 1 MHz.

A SILICON PHOTODIODE ARRAY DETECTOR COVERING A LARGE SOLID ANGLE FOR FLUORESCENCE EXAFS MEASUREMENTS FROM 2 TO 25 keV

A Si-photodiode array detector operated in the photovoltaic mode is shown to offer several advantages over other fluorescence detectors: high efficiency, perfect linearity of the response, vacuum compatibility for soft X-ray measurements, absence of gas and voltage supplies. Low temperature cooling down to 120°c is needed in order to decrease the dark current and thermal noise of the shunt resi...

Developing a high-resolution x-ray imager using electron-multiplying (EM) CCDs

Applications at synchrotron facilities such as macromolecular crystallography and high energy X-ray diffraction require high resolution imaging detectors with high dynamic range and large surface area. Current systems can be split into two main categories: hybrid pixel detectors and scintillator-coupled Charge-Coupled Devices (CCDs). Whilst both have limitations, CCD-based systems (coupled to f...

Temporal and spatial multiplexed infrared single-photon counter based on high-speed avalanche photodiode

We report on a high-speed temporal and spatial multiplexed single-photon counter with photon-number-resolving capability up to four photons. The infrared detector combines a fiber loop to split, delay and recombine optical pulses and a 200 MHz dual-channel single-photon detector based on InGaAs/InP avalanche photodiode. To fully characterize the photon-number-resolving capability, we perform qu...

A liquid-helium cooled large-area silicon PIN photodiode x-ray detector

An x-ray detector using a liquid-helium cooled large-area silicon PIN photodiode has been developed along with a tailor-made charge sensitive preamplifier whose firststage JFET has been cooled. The operating temperature of the JFET has been varied separately and optimized. The xand γ-ray energy spectra for an Am source have been measured with the photodiode operated at 13 K. An energy resolutio...

High-Speed POF Receivers

In this work we present a high-speed optical receiver with external large-area photodiode. The optical receiver is realized in 0.35μm SiGe BiCMOS technology. The input circuit is a two-transistor transimpedance amplifier using an common-emitter and an emitter-follower configuration. An external silicon PIN photodiode of a squared area of 0.25mm2 with a rise time of 0.4ns at 850nm light is used....
